Flash Floods Partially Damage Grain Mills, Footbridge in Kishtwar’s Padder Region

Imran Shah
Kishtwar, (DD) Heavy rainfall triggered flash floods in the remote Khough Nallah Sazar area of Padder, Kishtwar, causing partial damage to three to four traditional water grain mills and a footbridge, local sources reported on Tuesday.

The incident occurred amid persistent inclement weather and continuous downpours that led to the overflowing of local streams, endangering normal life and disrupting daily activities in the area.

Fortunately, there have been no reports of loss of life. However, villagers expressed concern over the structural damage to the grain mills — vital for local subsistence — and the footbridge, which serves as a key connector for the community.

Local administration and police authorities have been alerted, and precautionary advisories have been issued urging residents to stay away from swollen streams and water bodies in light of ongoing rains.

Rescue teams have reportedly been activated, and officials are closely monitoring the situation. Further updates are expected as weather conditions evolve and detailed assessments are conducted(DD)
