Flash Floods Wreak Havoc in Ramban: 3 Dead, Over 100 Rescued, Highway Blocked

Ramban, April 20(DD):At least three people, including two children, were killed and more than 100 others rescued after relentless rains triggered flash floods and landslides across Ramban district, causing widespread devastation and blocking the vital National Highway-44 at multiple locations.Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramban, Kulbir Singh, said that the deceased were killed when a house collapsed in Bagna village. “Heavy overnight rains led to flash floods and a cloudburst-like situation. Two hotels, several shops, and multiple homes have been damaged,” he said.The SSP added that over 100 people have been rescued and shifted to safer locations by joint rescue teams, while operations are ongoing despite continued rainfall.Meanwhile, SSP Traffic NHW, Raja Adil Hamid Ganaie, confirmed that the highway remains blocked at five locations due to landslides and shooting stones. “Restoration work will begin as soon as the weather improves. Passenger safety has been our priority—while some vehicles have suffered minor damage, no injuries have been reported so far,” he stated.Union Minister Jitendra Singh, in a post on X, said the region experienced “a heavy hailstorm, strong winds, and multiple landslides,” and expressed grief over th2e loss of lives. He praised the district administration for its swift response and assured continued support. “Whatever additional help is needed, even from my personal resources, will be made available,” he said, urging people to remain calm and not panic.As rainfall continues, residents are bracing for further challenges while authorities race to restore connectivity and ensure safety(DD)
