Udhampur:TDD,Pawan Khajuria, a prominent leader of the Udhampur Jammu and Kashmir extended his support for the ongoing strike by the (Safai Karamchari) Sanitation workers’ union in Udhampur. Khajuria urged the government to swiftly address the legitimate demands of the workers, who have been protesting from last five days.
Khajuria stated that the (Safai Karamchari )sanitation workers have been consistently raising their justified demands, but the government has not paid heed to their concerns. Now, with a new government in power, he believes it is crucial for the administration to resolve this issue and restore the city’s cleanliness.
The former municipality chairman highlighted the alarming situation in Udhampur, where large piles of garbage have been accumulating, not only compromising the city’s aesthetics but also posing a threat of diseases like dengue. Khajuria mentioned that even schoolchildren and women visiting temples are facing difficulties due to the overwhelming stench and waste.
Recalling his own tenure as the municipality chairman in 2005, Khajuria said that during that time, he had ensured the regularization of contractual sanitation workers and had also prioritized the city’s cleanliness. He urged the current government to swiftly address the demands of the sanitation workers, warning that if their concerns are not addressed soon, he and his supporters may also join the workers in their protests on the streets.TDD
