Among slain are both locals and non locals: IGP Kashmir; incident evokes wide spread condemnations

Srinagar, :(TDD): At least seven persons including a doctor and six labourers were killed and five others injured when militants attacked a barrack at Gagangeer area of Sonmarg in Ganderbal district yesterday evening.
An official said that terrorists attacked a barrack of laborers at Gagangeer in which initially two labourers were killed and eight others including a local doctor were injured.
Among the injured, five more including the doctor who has been identified as Dr Shahnawaz of Budgam district, succumbed taking the death toll to seven. Five others are battling for life.
“Seven persons including both locals and non locals were killed in the act, ” IGP Kashmir VK Birdhi told The Diplomat.
Police sources said that the security forces have cordoned off the area and massive manhunt has been launched.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah wrote on X that “very sad news of a dastardly & cowardly attack on non-local labourers at Gagangir in Sonamarg region. These people were working on a key infrastructure project in the area. 2 have been killed & 2-3 more have been injured in this militant attack. I strongly condemn this attack on unarmed innocent people & send my condolences to their loved ones.” Condemnations poured in from LG Manoj Sinha, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, J&K Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra, BJP and other quarters as well.
