Ganderbal, (DD): In a shocking incident, police in Ganderbal have arrested a girl for killing her younger sister, after she confessed to the crime during interrogation.

The case came to light on Monday when the body of a minor girl was discovered near the Batsar–Sehpora road. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Khaleel Ahmad Poswal, said a case (FIR No. 29/2025) was immediately registered at Police Station Kheer Bhawani.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted, with forensic experts from Srinagar called in to examine the scene. At first, investigators suspected kidnapping and murder after both sisters had gone missing from their home.

However, forensic clues and CCTV footage soon pointed towards the elder sister. “She had changed her clothes at a relative’s house, where blood stains were later recovered. In addition, hair samples of the accused were found in the hands of the deceased,” SSP Poswal said.

When questioned, the girl initially tried to mislead investigators but later admitted her involvement. She confessed that the sisters had gone to their family land, where a quarrel turned violent. In a fit of rage, she struck her younger sister with an iron rod, fatally injuring her.

Police have arrested the accused and said further investigation is underway.(DD)
