Kargil, DD, Department of Zoology, Government Degree College (GDC) Kargil, in collaboration with the Wildlife Protection Division Kargil, organized an educational field trip to the picturesque Mushkoh Valley in Drass, aimed at observing and studying the elusive Himalayan Brown Bear in its natural habitat.
The field trip was designed for 6th Semester students enrolled in the subject “Skill Development in Wildlife Studies and Research”, forming a vital part of their academic curriculum.
A total of 15 students participated in this hands-on learning experience, accompanied by Padma Wangchok, Assistant Professor of Zoology at GDC Kargil, along with a field expert from the Wildlife Division Kargil.
The trip was aimed to provide students with real-world exposure to wildlife research methodologies and enhance their understanding of conservation practices in high-altitude ecosystems.
Through direct observation and field-based learning, students gained valuable insights into the behavior, ecology, and conservation status of brown bears in the region.
“This field trip will not only enrich our students’ academic understanding but also contribute to their overall personal and professional development in the field of wildlife studies,” Padma Wangchok.
“We express our gratitude to the Wildlife Protection Division Kargil for their support and expertise in making this experience both safe and educational.”
The Department of Zoology looks forward to continuing such collaborative initiatives that blend academic learning with environmental stewardship and hands-on field training.DD
