Srinagar,(DD): The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has officially accepted the resignation of Safeena Baig from her position as Chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory Haj Committee.

As per an official order issued by the administration, her resignation has been accepted in accordance with Section 24 of the Haj Committee Act, 2002, and is deemed effective from August 24, 2024.

Safeena Baig, who had been serving as the head of the Haj Committee for the Union Territory, played a significant role in overseeing the annual Haj pilgrimage arrangements for pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir. Her tenure saw the coordination of travel logistics, pilgrim facilitation, and implementation of key administrative decisions related to the Haj process.

While the government has not yet announced her successor, officials have confirmed that interim arrangements will be made to ensure the smooth functioning of the committee and preparations for the upcoming Haj season continue without disruption.

The reason for her resignation has not been officially stated. However, political circles are abuzz with speculation about her future role in regional politics, especially considering her prominent position in north Kashmir’s political landscape.(DD)
