Leh,DD: Government Degree College Nobra celebrated International Women’s Day on 8th of March, 2025 on the theme “Empower Every Woman: Equality, Progress, Inclusion”. The event brought together community leaders, students, and faculty members for a meaningful discussion on women’s empowerment and the challenges they face. The program was graced by distinguished speakers from the local community, Smt. Sonam Dolma, President, Ama Tsogspa, Diskit and Smt. Tundup Angmo, President, Ama Tsogspa, LBA, Nubra. The speakers shared their insights and experiences, shedding light on key issues affecting women in the region and the collective efforts needed to promote gender equality. The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Tsewang Motup, Principal of Government Degree College, Nubra. He emphasized the importance of recognizing women’s contributions and fostering an inclusive society. Citing examples from the local community, he highlighted the challenges faced by women in Nubra and underscored the need for gender equality. Students of the college also delivered inspiring speeches on women’s empowerment, rights, and challenges. Sanju Kumari, Naziya Anjum, and Zara Batul shared their perspectives on the progress and struggles of women, offering thought-provoking insights. In her address, Smt. Sonam Dolma spoke about the vital role of women as mothers and educators in shaping society. She stressed the responsibility of mothers in raising and nurturing the future of Ladakh, guiding children toward the right path. She also urged students to make positive life choices and avoid harmful influences such as drug abuse, emphasizing the collective responsibility to bring about meaningful change. Smt. Tundup Angmo highlighted the significant contributions of women to community development, advocating for increased participation and leadership in various spheres of society. Short film Juice was also screened during the event which showcases a powerful critique of the deep-rooted misogyny and patriarchal mindset in Indian society. Both speakers, Smt. Sonam Dolma and Smt. Tundup Angmo, were felicitated with tokens of appreciation in recognition of their valuable contributions and inspiring words.The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Assistant Professor, Convenor, Women Empowerment Cell/ GSCASH, expressing gratitude to the guest speakers, faculty, and students for making the celebration a success.
