CM Lauds Educators in Remote Areas, Says Opening Schools in Cities Is Easy

Srinagar, (DD): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday underscored the unwavering dedication of government school teachers serving in remote and mountainous areas of Jammu and Kashmir, contrasting their efforts with the limited reach of private schools.

Addressing a gathering at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), the Chief Minister said, “It is easy to open a school at Athwajan Chowk or Hyderpora. But those who constantly compare government schools with private ones should travel to the mountains and witness the dedication of government teachers where no private institutions exist.”

Omar Abdullah’s remarks come amid ongoing public discourse around the performance of government-run schools versus private educational institutions. He emphasized that while urban areas are saturated with private schools, it is the government teachers who ensure education reaches the most inaccessible corners of the region.

“These teachers walk miles, cross streams, and brave harsh weather—not for headlines, but out of duty and commitment,” he added, drawing appreciation from the audience.

The event, attended by senior officials from the Directorate of School Education Kashmir, officials from the School Education Department, and Education Minister Sakina Itoo, focused on educational reforms and challenges in the Union Territory.

The Chief Minister’s comments have sparked conversations online, with many applauding the recognition of teachers working in isolated hamlets across the valley(DD)
