Srinagar, (DD): Health Minister Sakina Itoo on Monday voiced deep concern over the growing health hazards caused by adulterated and chemical-laced food, warning that such practices are contributing to rising cases of cancer, liver ailments, and heart attacks.
“Health is a serious concern. Adulteration and harmful chemicals in our food are endangering lives,” she said, stressing the urgent need for intervention.
Itoo informed that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah recently chaired a high-level meeting on the matter and ordered strict action against offenders. “The Chief Minister has directed that food testing laboratories be set up in every district to ensure the quality of food items sold by shopkeepers and vendors. He has also instructed concerned departments to carry out daily inspections,” she added.
Reiterating the government’s resolve, the minister said, “We will act strictly. Testing labs will be operational in all districts, and rigorous checks will be conducted to safeguard public health.”(DD)
