Srinagar, (TDD): Gulmarg authorities have successfully conducted a controlled blasting operation today at Afarwat as part of their routine winter safety measures, resulting in a planned avalanche.
The operation, overseen by the Snow Safety Officer and his team, was executed with precision to prepare the slopes and reduce the risk of future avalanches. This is a standard procedure, which has been carried out annually during the winter months to ensure the safety of the slopes and minimize avalanche hazards in the popular skiing destination.
The Assistant Director of Tourism in Gulmarg emphasized that this practice has been in place for years and has always been carefully managed to avoid any risks to the public. Authorities assured visitors and locals that there is no cause for concern, as the controlled avalanche was part of the planned safety measures.
Such controlled avalanches help in releasing excess snow buildup and preventing spontaneous, unanticipated avalanches, which could be dangerous for skiers and other visitors. This proactive approach ensures the region remains safe throughout the peak winter season, while also preserving the ski resort’s functionality and charm.
The tourism department continues to prioritize public safety while providing a secure and enjoyable experience for all visitors to Gulmarg. (TDD)
