Gulmarg Convention Centre Must Not Meet Pahalgam Club’s Fate: CM Omar Abdullah

Says Facility Should Become Hub for International Conferences and Tourism Events

Srinagar:DD, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said the Gulmarg Convention Centre, inaugurated recently, should be developed into a vibrant hub of activity and not left underused like the Pahalgam Club.

Speaking to media persons Omar said the facility was badly needed in Gulmarg and must now be marketed well to attract major gatherings. He added that the government is considering linking it with SKICC to promote it as a joint package for conferences and tourism events.

Referring to global business summits, Omar remarked that Gulmarg too has the potential to attract regular high-profile meetings. “We should aim for at least two to four such events annually that can bring participants from across the world,” he said.

CM also suggested introducing coffee shops, restaurants, and digital cinema inside the centre to give tourists more evening activities and generate revenue.

He said the facility should serve multiple purposes, including weddings and recreational events, warning that without proper use it could end up as a financial burden like the Pahalgam Club.

Earlier, Chief Minister inaugurated a Convention Centre in Gulmarg, stating that it should not become a burden on the government. (KNC)
