Jammu, DD, A Gulmohar Plantation Drive was organized on the University campus by the Department of Arboriculture and Landscaping in collaboration with the Green Campus Task Force (GCTF-JU) at the University of Jammu. This event was in continuation with the massive Tree Plantation drive “From Sips to Saplings” inaugurated by Honourable Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu, Prof. Umesh Rai on July 20th, 2025. In the plantation drive, Prof. Umesh Rai planted a Gulmohar sapling and interacted with newly inducted students from various departments of the University. “I hope that the Gulmohar plantation drive will not only beautify the campus, as Gulmohar is known for its fiery blossoms and wide canopy, but it will also contribute to biodiversity and climate resilience”, he said in his introductory remarks. Prof. Rai appreciated the innovative initiative of the Arboriculture and Landscaping Department in naming various pathways of the University after specific flowering trees, such as Champa Lane, Gulmohar Lane, and Amaltas Lane. The students participated in the activity with full enthusiasm and planted Gulmohar saplings.
The event was attended by Prof. Anju Bhasin, Dean Academic Affairs University of Jammu, Prof. Piyush Malaviya, Convener, Landscaping and Arboriculture Department; Prof. Deepika Slathia, Convener, Green Campus Task Force (GCTF-JU), Mr. Ajmer Singh, Landscape Development Officer, Dr. Saran Preet Broca, Joint Registrar, Academic Affairs, Mr. Amit Targotra, Assistant Director, DIQA, Dr. Anshu Gupta, Assistant Professor, Environmental Sciences; Dr. Bhagwati Assistant Professor, Hindi along with other officers, dignitaries, students and volunteers of the University.DD
