Handwara, DD, With the aim of ensuring quality food supplies and protecting public health, Handwara Police, led by IC PP Zachaldara, today conducted a market checking drive at Main Market Zachaldara in collaboration with the Food Safety Officer and the Executive Magistrate.
During the drive, inspections were carried out at meat shops, karyana stores, hotels, restaurants, and other food vending outlets. The teams emphasized hygiene, proper sanitation standards, and checked food items for expiry dates. Shopkeepers were directed to prominently display approved rate lists, while the quality and authenticity of products being sold to consumers were also verified.
Shopkeepers were strictly instructed to maintain cleanliness, avoid overpricing, and adhere to food safety regulations.
The initiative was widely appreciated by the locals, who welcomed the step as vital for curbing malpractices and safeguarding consumer rights. Local Trades union has also expressed satisfaction on this initiative emphasising that such drives help to enforce the safety measures and curb malpractices.
Handwara Police reaffirmed its commitment to continuing such market checking drives in the future and urged the public to cooperate by promptly reporting any malpractice or violation.DD
