Diplomat Correspondent

Handwara, DD, As part of its sustained efforts to strengthen internal security and prevent the misuse of mobile communication facilities, Handwara Police today carried out a special district-wide inspection of SIM card vendors operating within the jurisdiction of Police District Handwara.

The inspection drive was conducted by dedicated police teams across various locations with the primary objective of ensuring strict adherence to the guidelines laid down by the Department of Telecommunications and law enforcement agencies regarding the sale and activation of SIM cards.

During the drive, special emphasis was laid on:

Verification of Know Your Customer (KYC) compliance by vendors.

Scrutiny of documentation procedures followed while issuing new SIM cards.

Ensuring that no SIM card is activated without proper verification of customer identity and address.

Checking safeguards adopted by vendors to prevent misuse or unauthorized issuance.

While interacting with the vendors, police authorities underscored the critical role of telecom retailers in safeguarding communication networks and preventing their misuse for unlawful activities. Vendors were categorically directed to comply with KYC protocols in letter and spirit. They were further cautioned that any violation or negligence will invite stringent legal action, including cancellation of licenses and prosecution under relevant provisions of law.

Handwara Police also appealed to the general public to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity, fake documentation, or irregularities noticed in the issuance or use of SIM cards. Such proactive community cooperation, coupled with strict enforcement measures, will go a long way in curbing misuse and enhancing the overall safety and security of the district.

Handwara Police reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe and secure communication environment and assured that similar inspections will continue as part of its zero-tolerance policy against any activity that could pose a threat to public peace and security.DD
