Anantnag, (DD): In a heartfelt tribute to the bravery of Syed Adil Hussain Shah, a victim of the recent Pahalgam militant attack, National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah announced that the Government High School in Hapatnarh would be renamed in his honor.

Dr. Abdullah made the announcement on Saturday during his visit to the bereaved family in the remote village of Hapatnarh, Pahalgam .Expressing deep grief and solidarity, he assured the family and local residents that the heroism and sacrifice of Adil would not be forgotten.

“Syed Adil Hussain Shah’s courage deserves to be remembered by generations. Naming the school after him will stand as a symbol of his sacrifice and inspire young minds to stand against terror and injustice,” Dr. Abdullah said while addressing a small gathering at the Shah residence.

Adil, a young volunteer from Kupwara, was among the 26 killed in the brutal attack on a pilgrimage group in Pahalgam. His efforts to shield others during the assault have been hailed as an act of selflessness and bravery.

The announcement has brought a sense of pride and solemn satisfaction to the local community, who had been demanding official recognition for Adil’s sacrifice.

Local leaders and civil society members welcomed the gesture. “This decision is not just a tribute to Adil but a message that bravery and humanity are honored in Kashmir, even in the darkest times,” said Ghulam Nabi Lone, a retired teacher from the area.

The school renaming proposal is expected to be formally forwarded to the Education Department for swift implementation.(DD)
