Leh,DD : The Smile Foundation, with support from the Central Depository Services Limited (CDSL), continues its commitment to improving community health through its Smile on Wheels (SOW) project, which has been operating in Leh-Ladakh since November 2023. As part of its ongoing efforts, a health camp was conducted today at SRMC, where 20 patients were examined and provided medical assistance. The team also organized awareness activities on diabetes, health, and hygiene to educate the local community.
Over the past two years, the project has reached approximately 22,000 patients, providing regular diabetes checkups—both daily and monthly—and conducting essential medical tests, including Hb, BP, ECG, Typhoid, Malaria, Uric Acid, and Cholesterol. Beneficiaries also receive free medicines during the health camps.
In addition to medical services, the project carries out Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities to promote awareness on issues such as hygiene, diabetes, joint pain, anemia, and hypertension, focusing particularly on remote and hard-to-reach areas where access to healthcare is limited.

The initiative is implemented by a five-member team comprising a Doctor, Nurse, Mobilizer, Driver, and Community Health Officer (CHO). The outreach has successfully covered regions including Nubra, Turtuk, Durbuk, Choglamsar, Shamma, Kharu, Sakti, Nimmo, Basgo, Chilling, Skiyu-Kaya, Hunder, and surrounding villages.DD
