Srinagar, (DD): The Meteorological Department has issued a weather advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, forecasting a fresh spell of rain from August 12 to 15, with a warning of heavy showers, thunderstorms, and flash floods in parts of the Jammu Division.
According to the MeT Centre Srinagar, the region is expected to witness generally hot and humid conditions from August 8 to 11, with chances of brief and isolated showers. However, intense rainfall is likely in some pockets of Jammu during this period.
From August 12 onward, the weather is expected to take a sharp turn as light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely at many places across the Union Territory. The department has also cautioned of heavy rain at isolated to scattered locations in the Jammu Division, especially during late night and early morning hours.
Advisory Issued for Public and Farmers
The MeT department has advised the public to remain cautious during the forecast period. There are chances of flash floods in vulnerable areas, along with the risk of landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones, especially in hilly regions.
Farmers have been specifically advised to complete all farm operations by August 11, before the onset of potentially disruptive weather.
The advisory also includes warnings of gusty winds, lightning, and thunderstorms at a few places.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are expected to issue further updates as needed. Residents, especially in Jammu’s flood and landslide-prone belts, are urged to stay alert and follow official instructions(DD)
