Srinagar, (DD): Under the influence of active monsoon conditions, parts of Jammu and Kashmir are likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours, with the Jammu region expected to witness intense showers.
According to Kashmir Weather, isolated areas in the Kashmir Valley may also receive rainfall, providing welcome relief from an ongoing heatwave that has gripped the region in recent days.
Over the past week, temperatures in the Valley have soared to record highs, with Srinagar touching 35.5°C—the highest June temperature in over two decades. Night temperatures too remained unusually warm, compounding the discomfort and sparking concerns about heat-related illnesses.
The incoming rains are expected to ease the oppressive conditions, but not without risks. Meteorologists have warned of cloudbursts and intense downpours, particularly in hill districts and flood-prone pockets, which could lead to localized flash flooding.
Residents, tourists, and local authorities are advised to remain vigilant, especially in vulnerable zones. People living near nallahs, rivers, and slopes should take necessary precautions.
More updates and real-time alerts will follow as the situation develops(DD)
