Heavy Rains Forecast in Jammu Division, MET Issues Advisory

Srinagar, (DD): The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Monday issued an advisory predicting light to moderate rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir over the next two days, with heavy to very heavy showers likely in several districts of Jammu division.

Director MET, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, said, “From August 25 to 26, we are expecting widespread rainfall activity. Districts including Jammu, Reasi, Udhampur, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, as well as parts of Poonch, Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar may witness moderate to heavy or even very heavy showers. Southern parts of Kashmir may also experience heavy rain.”

He cautioned that flash floods, cloudbursts, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones are possible in vulnerable areas. People have been advised to stay away from riverbanks, streams, and unstable structures, while authorities have been alerted to the risk of waterlogging in low-lying areas of Jammu division.

According to the forecast, hot and humid weather with brief showers is expected between August 27–30, followed by another spell of moderate to heavy rainfall in Jammu division between August 31 and September 1.(DD)
