Kishtwar: Heavy snowfall in the Warwan and Marwah areas has brought normal life to a standstill, with roads turning dangerously icy and inaccessible. In one distressing incident, a pregnant woman had to be carried on the shoulders of her family members to reach a hospital due to complete road closures.
The woman, a resident of Jullah village in Choidraman, Warwan, was shifted to Aftee village for medical care after her health condition worsened. With no road connectivity available, her family members and relatives carried her on their shoulders through treacherous terrain and harsh weather conditions.
“The woman’s health deteriorated, and it was not possible to shift her to the hospital due to blocked roads. However, family members and locals came together to help her reach medical care despite immense hardships,” locals said.
They added that roads in the remote Warwan area remain blocked due to heavy snowfall, leaving residents cut off for nearly six months every year.
Locals have demanded the introduction of helicopter services in the Marwah and Warwan regions to airlift critically ill patients during emergencies and save precious lives.
“Had there been helicopter services, the pregnant woman could have been shifted to the hospital without putting her life at risk,” locals said, urging authorities to take immediate action.
