High Court Steps Forward to Support Flood Victims in J&K, Ladakh

Diplomat Correspondent

Jammu: DD, The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has directed its judges and staff to contribute from their salaries towards the government’s relief fund for victims of recent cloudbursts and flash floods.

According to the order, each Judge of the High Court will give ₹20,000, while District Judges will contribute ₹10,000. Civil Judges (Senior Division) have been asked to donate ₹7,000, and Civil Judges (Junior Division) ₹5,000. Gazetted officers of the judiciary will contribute ₹5,000 each, and non-gazetted officials will give ₹1,000 each.

The Registrar Judicial of both wings of the High Court will collect these amounts and deposit them in a designated JK Bank account at the High Court Complex, Srinagar. Lists of contributors along with the deposited sums will also be maintained. Similarly, Principal District and Sessions Judges across J&K and Ladakh will oversee the collection and deposit of contributions in their districts.

The order further appealed to the members of the High Court Bar Association at Jammu and Srinagar, as well as District Bar Associations, to voluntarily contribute towards the relief efforts. Once all amounts are collected, the Registrar General will issue a consolidated cheque to the Government of Jammu and Kashmir for use in relief operations.

The contributions are to be deposited within three days of the order. The step shows the judiciary’s willingness to extend a helping hand to those struggling with the losses caused by the natural calamity.DD
