Srinagar, (DD): Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit the family of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Humayun Muzamil later this evening in South Kashmir, during his ongoing tour of Jammu and Kashmir.
The visit is seen as a solemn tribute to the young officer who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. DSP Humayun, 32, was martyred on September 13, 2023, during a high-risk counter-terrorism operation in the dense forests of Gadole, Kokernag in South Kashmir. The joint operation, conducted by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, saw intense exchanges of fire with militants, leading to the martyrdom of Humayun and three other senior officers, including Colonel Manpreet Singh and Major Aashish Dhonchak.
Humayun Muzamil, who had only recently become a father, was the son of retired Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Hassan Bhat. His death had sent shockwaves across the Valley, drawing widespread grief and tributes from all quarters—security personnel, politicians, and civilians alike.
Amit Shah’s visit to the bereaved family is expected to underscore the Central Government’s support for the families of security personnel who lay down their lives in service of the nation. Officials say the meeting will be private and is aimed at offering condolences and solidarity.
Shah’s visit to the region comes amid heightened security and political activity, with several high-level meetings scheduled around developmental and security-related issues. However, this personal gesture is being widely viewed as a reaffirmation of the government’s commitment to honoring the sacrifices of its fallen heroes(DD)
