IEI Jammu Celebrates World Engineering Day,

Emphasizes Sustainable Development

Jammu, DD: The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Centre celebrated World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development with the theme “Unleashing the Power of Engineers to Advance the Sustainable Development Goals.” The event witnessed participation from engineers across various departments, organizations, and senior professionals, along with members of the IEI Jammu Local Centre Committee.

Er. Raheela Wani, FIE, Managing Director of J&K Power Transmission Corporation Ltd., Power Development Department, J&K Govt., Jammu, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Er. Anil Verma, FIE, Chairman of IEI Jammu Centre, presided over the function.

In his welcome address, Er. Anil Verma emphasized the significance of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as benchmarks for ensuring a sustainable future. He highlighted the crucial role of engineers in achieving these goals and urged citizens to contribute by adopting initiatives such as PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana for rooftop solar installations. He also elaborated on the Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to provide clean drinking water to every household. Furthermore, he encouraged engineers from academia, research, and execution fields to collaborate in making the world more livable.

The event featured insightful presentations from eminent engineers, including Er. P. K. Nanda, FIE; Er. Ranjeev Sawhney, MIE; Er. Hemdeep Singh Ishar, AMIE; and Er. Anil Kumar Shan, AMIE, who shared their perspectives on sustainable engineering solutions.

Chief Guest Er. Raheela Wani appreciated the presentations and stressed the need for integrating sustainability principles into engineering education. She emphasized that engineers must be trained not only in technical skills but also in sustainable practices. She also highlighted the role of NGOs and private entrepreneurs in collaborating with the government on sustainable projects. Furthermore, she encouraged engineers to stay updated with emerging digital technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and Big Data to drive innovative and sustainable engineering solutions.

The event was seamlessly conducted by Er. Avneet Gupta, MIE, Honorary Secretary, who managed the proceedings and delivered the Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to the esteemed guests, participants, and media personnel for their support and engagement.

The celebration underscored the vital role of engineering in achieving sustainability and advancing global development goals, reinforcing the commitment of engineers toward a greener and more sustainable future.DD
