IIM Jammu Sets the Stage for Future Leaders with Grand Valedictory of IPM 5th Batch Orientation

Jammu, DD, The Indian Institute of Management Jammu concluded its three-day Orientation Program for the 5th Batch of the Integrated Programme in Management (2025-2030) with a grand valedictory ceremony at the Jagti Campus on 23rd Aug 2025. The valedictory ceremony was graced by Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu. Present on the occasion were Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean, Faculty and Research, IIM Jammu; Prof. Nitin Upadhyay, Dean Academics, IIM Jammu; Dr. Archana Sharma, Chairperson, IPM and Dr. Naveen Goyal, Co-Chairperson, IPM.

In his valedictory address, Prof. B. S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, urged students to make the best use of the AI-integrated Akshat Communication state of the art Lab, engage openly with faculty, and contribute ideas toward the institute’s growth during its ongoing 10-year grand celebrations. He emphasized the importance of balancing academics, personality development, well-being, and extracurricular activities, stressing that true success comes from a holistic approach to life. Encouraging students to enjoy their learning journey, he reminded them that real fulfillment lies in finding joy and meaning in every pursuit. Referring to his recent interaction with parents, he reassured them that their wards are in safe hands and highlighted that every student carries immense potential, which can be unlocked through courage, confidence, and effective communication. Reiterating IIM Jammu’s commitment to entrepreneurship, innovation, and academic excellence, he called upon students to embrace opportunities, manage their time wisely, and shape their journey at IIM Jammu into an enriching and transformative experience.

Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean, Faculty and Research, IIM Jammu, in his address, reminded students that life ahead is not going to be simple and called upon them to cultivate strong characteristics for success. Quoting Sanskrit wisdom, he emphasized that sacrifice is essential to achieve excellence, even if it means compromising on comfort and sleep. He advised students to be attentive, disciplined, and mindful of how they utilize their time, noting that while time is equally available to all, success depends on how it is optimized. He encouraged them to interact freely with faculty, peers, and staff at IIM Jammu, to be helpful, and to use the next five years as a foundation to become responsible leaders with a strong head on their shoulders.

Prof. Nitin Upadhyay, Dean, Academics, IIM Jammu, in his address, remarked that the orientation was only the beginning and that the real journey lies ahead. He urged students to be conscious, mindful, and available for others while preparing themselves for the challenges and opportunities of being part of an Institute of National Importance. He emphasized the importance of making the best use of both classroom and out-of-classroom learning, setting a legacy for the institute, and upholding respect and responsibility in every action, including their presence on social media. Concluding his remarks, he reminded students that what they had experienced was just the trailer, and much more was in store as they embark on their academic journey.

The ceremony commenced with the Orientation Report presented by Dr. Archana Sharma, Chairperson, IPM, who highlighted the comprehensive program design aimed at facilitating a smooth transition for students into the academic and cultural life at IIM Jammu. She emphasized the role of the orientation in instilling confidence, discipline, and holistic development.

Students of the new batch shared their reflections, describing the orientation as a transformative experience that redefined their limits and eased their transition from school to institute life. They expressed gratitude for the enriching sessions, the vision shared by faculty to make IIM Jammu one of the finest institutes globally, and the emphasis on putting the nation first. Students highlighted the shift in mindset from job seekers to job creators, the sense of responsibility being instilled, and the inspiration to explore new spectrums of life. Memorable activities, including refreshing yoga sessions, team interactions, and guidance from professors and peers, were seen as catalysts for growth, adaptability, and resilience. Many remarked that as IIM Jammu grows, they too will grow with it. The valedictory culminated with a formal Vote of Thanks by Dr. Naveen Goyal, Co-chairperson, IPM followed by the national anthem.

On the third day of the orientation, the program featured several inspiring sessions and interactions. Mr. Gaurav Kulshreshtha, Director, Marketing, Payments, Flipkart highlighted the concept of “Falling Forward” during his talk on “Some Timeless Fundamental Principles for the Corporate Journey,” emphasizing the importance of learning from mistakes. Mr. Parvez Siraj, Vice President, Lupin Limited, delivered an inspiring session on “The Art of Becoming,” discussing why motivation often wanes, how limiting beliefs hold people back, and the importance of resilience in personal and professional transformation. Through engaging activities, he encouraged students to think creatively, embrace new perspectives, and shift from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset. Shri Hasit Singh Sachdeva, Proprietor, R.P. Steels, motivated students to focus on becoming job creators rather than job seekers.

The day began with an energizing session titled Maximize Happiness and Mindfulness, conducted by renowned yoga guru Sahil Mehra under the aegis of Anandam – The Center of Happiness, IIM Jammu. The session focused on cultivating inner peace and emotional well- being among students.

Earlier in the day, Prof. Shyam Narayan Lal, Chairperson, Anandam and Media and Publication Division, IIM Jammu, introduced students to the Indian Knowledge System, highlighting the relevance of India’s timeless wisdom in shaping responsible leaders. He also underscored the importance of nurturing one’s happiness quotient as a key element in leading a balanced and fulfilling life, reminding students that true growth comes from aligning personal well-being with professional aspirations. Students actively participated in inbound and outbound activities facilitated by faculty from the OB & HR and Communication areas, aimed at fostering team spirit, collaboration, and effective communication skills.

On Day 2, Prof. Prashant Mishra, Chairperson, International Relations, IIM Jammu, addressed the students on “International Student’s Exchange Program and Working in a Cross-Cultural Environment,” providing insights into global learning opportunities and the importance of cultural adaptability. This was followed by a session on “IT Infrastructure, Policies, and Future Plans” by Dr. Prakrit Silal, Chairperson (IT), highlighting the role of technology in enabling a modern learning environment.
