Jammu, (DD): A fraudulent Facebook account impersonating Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu, Anand Jain, has been discovered, leading Jammu Police to initiate legal proceedings against the culprits responsible for the deceptive act.
The fake account, which used the ADGP’s profile picture and misleading bio, falsely claimed to be associated with the Jammu & Kashmir ADGP office and Fire & Emergency Services.
It was allegedly created to exploit the public’s trust, with potential risks including the solicitation of sensitive personal information and financial fraud.
A police spokesperson condemned the creation of such fraudulent accounts, emphasizing the danger they pose to the public. “We urge citizens to remain vigilant and avoid responding to any messages, friend requests, or solicitations from this fake profile. Similar scams in the past have led to significant financial losses, along with emotional distress for victims,” the spokesperson said.
The ADGP also expressed concern over the serious breach, calling it a deliberate attempt to mislead and exploit people. “This act of impersonation is not only unethical but also illegal, and we are committed to bringing those responsible to justice,” said the ADGP.
In response to the incident, police officials have called on the community to report any suspicious activity related to fake profiles and scams. Investigations are currently underway to identify the individuals behind the creation of the fraudulent account, with the police using all available resources to ensure that the perpetrators face appropriate legal action(DD).
