Poonch, (DD): In a quiet yet significant development aimed at maintaining stability along the Line of Control (LoC) at Chakkan – Da – Bagh in Poonch, Indian and Pakistani military’s respective Brigade Commanders held a flag meeting here today.
The interaction, part of a series of confidence-building measures, focused on routine issues related to border management and operational coordination.
Flag meetings are customary engagements conducted by both sides to defuse tensions, discuss localized issues, and maintain peace in sensitive areas along the LoC. They are rooted in the mutual understanding between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) of India and Pakistan.
An official Army spokesperson, responding to specific queries, said: “Flag meetings are a routine part of Line of Control (LoC) and border management procedures, conducted in accordance with the understanding reached between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) of both sides. Today’s meeting was held to discuss routine operational and administrative issues along the Line of Control.”
While the exact details of the discussion remain confidential, sources indicate that matters such as movement protocols, local ceasefire adherence, and coordination mechanisms were on the agenda.
The meeting, held in a cordial atmosphere, reflects both sides’ intent to sustain dialogue and uphold the ceasefire understanding that has brought a measure of calm to the border regions in recent years.
Local residents, whose lives are often disrupted by cross-border tensions, have welcomed the continued military engagement and hope it translates into sustained peace and development along the frontier. (DD)
