Indian Army Facilitates Interaction With Gujjar and Bakarwal Community at Marhot, Poonch

Poonch,DD: As part of its ongoing outreach initiatives, the Indian Army facilitated an interaction with representatives of the nomadic Gujjar-Bakarwal community at Marhot, Poonch.
The meeting, attended by 10 community members, served as a consultative platform to discuss the significant logistical and humanitarian challenges faced during their seasonal migration between the plains and high-altitude meadows.
The session aimed to consolidate community experiences and formalize requests for assistance from various supporting agencies, particularly the Indian Army, which operates extensively in the remote regions along their traditional migration routes.
Participant’s highlighted issues encountered while navigating difficult and rugged terrain and sought support in mitigating challenges related to movement, shelter and basic amenities.


The interaction also focused on compiling a comprehensive need-based assessment, documenting critical issues faced during previous migration cycles and identifying areas where the Indian Army could extend practical assistance.
The initiative reinforced the Indian Army’s commitment to supporting the welfare and sustenance of nomadic communities inhabiting remote border regions and strengthening the bond of mutual trust and cooperation.DD
