Balakote (Mendhar): The Indian Army organised a vibrant volleyball tournament in the Balakote area of Mendhar, drawing enthusiastic participation from eight teams across the tehsil and transforming the remote border belt into a hub of sporting activity.
The tournament was aimed at channeling local youth towards sports, nurturing their talent, and instilling the spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship. The matches were played on a league basis and attracted sizeable crowds from nearby villages, with spectators cheering passionately throughout the event.
In a gripping final, Barothi Volleyball Club edged past Balakote Volleyball Club after a fiercely contested match, with players from both sides battling for every point. Barothi Volleyball Club emerged as champions, lifting the trophy amid loud cheers from jubilant supporters.
The winning team was awarded a trophy along with a cash prize of ₹50,000, while the runner-up received ₹25,000 and a trophy. Players were also presented with sports kits, jerseys, and medals in recognition of their performances during the tournament.
Local youth and villagers expressed gratitude to the Indian Army for organising the event and promoting sports in an area where such opportunities are limited. They said such initiatives not only encourage young talent but also help strengthen the bond between the Army and the community.DD
