Indian Army Undertakes Flood Relief Operations in Himachal Pradesh

Mandi, DD, The Indian Army continues to extend critical support to civil administration in Himachal Pradesh as part of ongoing Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations, following the recent floods in Mandi district.

In close coordination with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local authorities, the Indian Army has deployed dedicated relief columns.

Operational Deployment and Tasks:

Indian Army Columns have been mobilised across key locations including Thunag, Bagsiad, and Pandoh. The Army column has been actively engaged in:

Opening of vital access routes – A critical mule track from Bagsiad to Thunag was successfully cleared on 06 July, enabling the delivery of essential supplies.

Medical assistance and distribution of relief material – Ongoing support at Thunag includes provision of first aid and distribution of ration kits to affected families.

Aid to inaccessible villages – In partnership with civil administration, the Army has ensured delivery of relief material to remote villages cut off by the flood. Aid has already reached Degi (07 Jul), Rushad (08 Jul), and Chapad (09 Jul).

All columns are in communication via mobile networks, with limited coverage at some locations like Thunag. Satellite communications including ISAT phone, RS STARSV and HX systems have been provided to ensure uninterrupted operational connectivity.

Planned Activities for 10 July:

The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh is scheduled to visit Thunag to assess the ongoing relief operations.
Brigade Commander, Indian Army is visiting Mandi for an operational update and interaction with the relief columns. A meeting with the Chief Minister and Deputy Commissioner, Mandi is also planned to enhance coordination and response.

The Indian Army remains committed to supporting the citizens of Himachal Pradesh during this crisis and continues to stand by the civil administration in its time of need.DD
