Srinagar,(DD)An IndiGo flight en route from Delhi to Srinagar encountered a hailstorm mid-air on Wednesday evening, prompting the pilot to declare an emergency before making a safe landing.
The flight, 6E2142 (VT-IMD), was carrying 227 passengers when it ran into severe turbulence due to a sudden hailstorm as it approached the Kashmir Valley. The aircraft crew immediately informed the Srinagar Air Traffic Control (ATC) and requested emergency support.
The plane landed safely at Srinagar International Airport at around 6:30 PM. Airport authorities confirmed that all passengers and crew members were unharmed.
Following the incident, the aircraft was declared “Aircraft on Ground” (AOG) by IndiGo for a comprehensive technical inspection and maintenance check. Emergency teams and ATC personnel responded swiftly, ensuring passenger safety and minimal disruption to other flight operations.
No injuries were reported, and flight operations at the airport resumed normally after the precautionary response(DD)
