International Child Girl Day celebrated in Rajouri

RAJOURI,TDD, The International Girl Child Day 2024 was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Rajouri, underscoring the significance of gender equality and the empowerment of girls. This year’s theme, “Girls’ Vision for the Future”, set the tone for an inspiring event held at the PWD Dak Bungalow, with Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma presiding over the celebration.

The event, organised by the District Administration Rajouri in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department, featured a range of activities aimed at raising awareness about the challenges faced by girls and promoting their rights.

The celebration also honored distinguished women achievers from various fields, who shared their stories to inspire the next generation of girls.

In his address, Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma emphasized the pivotal role that girls play in society, stressing the importance of education for their empowerment.

He also highlighted several government initiatives, such as the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” scheme, which aims to uplift girls and encourage their participation across all spheres of life.

Acknowledging the collaborative efforts of the District Administration and the Social Welfare Department, Abhishek Sharma praised ongoing programs that focus on healthcare, education, and economic empowerment of girls and women. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to creating an inclusive environment where girls can thrive and contribute to the development of the community.

The event witnessed a strong turnout, with over 450 participants, including students, Anganwadi Workers (AWWs), ASHA workers, and members of civil society. Among the notable attendees were District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) Abdul Raheem, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Aditi Singhaal, Tehsil Social Welfare Officers Shahid Mumtaz (Darhal), Rahul Puri (Sunderbani), Khursheed Malik (Kotranka), and Waqar Khan from the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA). Representatives from the One Stop Centre and the Hub for Empowerment of Women were also present.TDD
