Srinagar, (DD)India has begun the first phase of evacuating its citizens stranded in Iran amid escalating hostilities between Israel and Iran. In a major relief operation, 110 Indian medical students—including 90 from Kashmir—were successfully evacuated from Urmia Medical University and have now safely entered Armenia.
According to Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) National Convenor Nasir Khuehami, the group crossed the Iran-Armenia land border overnight and is currently travelling by road to the Armenian capital, Yerevan. “They are expected to reach Yerevan by noon,” Khuehami said after speaking with several evacuees en route.
The Indian Embassy in Yerevan has coordinated the evacuation and arranged onward travel. A chartered flight carrying the students to New Delhi is scheduled for Wednesday.
JKSA has urged the remaining Indian students still in Iran to remain in close contact with embassy helplines and to strictly follow official advisories(DD)
