The Diplomat Desk

Jammu :TDD,Jammu and Kashmir’s health department has stepped up its preparedness in response to the rising threat of the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) virus. Concerns have escalated after seven pediatric cases were reported in India. Although no cases have been detected in Jammu and Kashmir yet, hospitals are taking precautionary measures to prevent potential outbreaks.

A 31-bed isolation ward, equipped with all necessary medical facilities, has been established at the Government Medical College (GMC) hospital in Jammu. Hospital staff have been trained to handle any emergency situations. This ward is specifically designed to treat children and immunocompromised individuals affected by the virus.
The health department has urged the public to remain calm, assuring that all measures have been taken to provide treatment and isolation in case of any outbreaks.

Experts have highlighted that the virus primarily affects children and individuals with weakened immune systems, but it can be effectively managed with proper medical care and treatment.
Dr. Arun Sharma, Medical Superintendent of GMC Gandhi Nagar, has emphasized the importance of maintaining hygiene and staying vigilant to prevent the spread of the infection. He reassured the public that there is no need for panic and that hospitals are well-equipped to handle any emergency.
Meanwhile, as HMPV cases continue to surge globally, including in India, the Jammu and Kashmir administration is proactively preparing to mitigate any potential impact.

Earlier today, the Medical Superintendent of SMGS Hospital Shalimar, Dara Singh, conducted an inspection of the hospital to ensure readiness. He confirmed that the hospital is fully prepared to handle HMPV cases if they arise in the region.TDD
