Jammu: DD, Jammu and Kashmir Police, in a sustained crackdown against illegal mining throughout the year from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024, has taken strict action across Jammu District, leading to the seizure of 934 vehicles involved in unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals.
The total fine imposed on violators amounts to ₹1, 33, 40, 368 (One Crore Thirty-Three Lakh Forty Thousand Three Hundred Sixty-Eight).
This massive enforcement drive was part of a strategic initiative to curb environmental degradation, protect government revenue, and prevent damage to public infrastructure.
Illegal mining has remained a serious concern due to its impact on riverbeds, roads, and the ecological balance. Acknowledging the severity of the issue, Jammu Police adopted a year-long multipronged strategy, conducting targeted operations based on credible intelligence, carrying out surprise raids, and ensuring continuous monitoring across multiple locations.
These proactive measures led to the successful disruption of illegal mineral extraction networks, holding violators accountable through strict legal action.
Several police stations across Jammu District played a crucial role in the crackdown.
Satwari Police Station led with the highest number of vehicle seizures at 300, followed by Nagrota with 135, Akhnoor with 115, Domana with 114, and Gharota with 36.
Other police stations also contributed significantly, ensuring a comprehensive district-wide effort against illegal mining.
The decisive actions taken throughout the year have sent a strong message that illegal mining will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Jammu and Kashmir Police has once again issued a stern warning to individuals and groups engaging in illegal mining. Extracting minerals from rivers, Nallahs, or restricted areas without authorization is a punishable offense, not only violating government regulations but also causing long-term environmental damage.
Anyone caught in such activities will face immediate vehicle seizure, heavy fines, and legal action under environmental and criminal laws.
