Jammu Police solves sensational murder case of Sumit Jandyal; juvenile shooter, main accused among 11 arrested

Jammu:DD, SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh on Wednesday claimed that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Jammu and Kashmir Police have solved the brutal murder case of Sumit Jandyal with the arrest of 11 accused persons.
The murder of Sumit Jandyal was planned by the rivals to take revenge for the killing of Vasudev Kumar alias Shunnu.
Addressing a press conference here, SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh said that on January 21, 2025 unidentified persons fired several rounds on a person travelling in red coloured Thar bearing registration number JK21G- 0770 near Jewel rotary and fled away from the spot after snatching a grey coloured scooty bearing registration number JK02DL-8834.
Immediately, the police team from police station Nowabad swung into action and they shifted the victim to the GMC Jammu where he was pronounced brought dead by the doctors. The deceased was identified as Sumit Jandyal alias Gataru, resident of Vijaypur, Samba.
“Senior police officers visited the spot and immediately several police teams fanned into different directions. On the basis of human, technical intelligence/analysis of CCTVs, assailants were identified,” said the SSP Jammu.
Keeping the gravity of the matter and seriousness of issue into consideration, the SSP said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was to investigate the matter.
During the course of investigation, the SIT rounded up around 30 suspects and raids were conducted in Jammu, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and U.P.
As the investigation proceeded, the SSP Jammu said that “It came to fore that it is an issue of old rivalry between Vikas Slathia alias Vicky Slathia, son of Ravinder Singh, resident of Mandi Gharota, Gurha Slathia, Vijaypur, Samba and Sumit Jandyal, son of Om Prakash, resident of ward number 9, Vijaypur.”
“It was the result of their rivalry that Akshay Kumar was murdered by Vicky Slathia group in 2023 at Ramgarh. Subsequently, in Akshay Kumar murder case police team raided GMC Kathua and during cross fire between a police team and gangsters, PSI Deepak Sharma was martyred and one notorious criminal namely Vasudev Kumar alias Shunnu, son of Lt. Rattan Lal, resident of Shehzadpur, Ramgarh was killed,” he informed, quoting the SIT investigation.
To take revenge for the killing of Vasudev Kumar alias Shunnu, he stated that “Vikas Slathia alias Vicky Slathia planned murder of Sumit Jandyal.”
Accordingly, Harsh Singh alias Banta, son of Ramesh Singh, resident of House Number 38, Bikram Chowk, Jammu was already in touch with Vikas Slathia alias Vicky Slathia and he was told by Vikas Slathia alias Vicky Slathia to arrange boys for the murder of Sumit Jandyal, he added.
“One room set was taken on rent in Shastri Nagar area specifically for executing the murder of Sumit Jandyal. Meanwhile, weapons were arranged from outside the UT of J&K,” he informed the reporters about how the brutal murder was planned.
“Alto car (black coloured) bearing registration number JK02AP-6546 was specifically purchased for carrying out recee/execution of murder for Rs. 1, 05, 000 around one week before the murder of Sumit Jandyal,” the SSP Jammu added.
Since last around four months proper recee was being conducted regarding stay/movement of Sumit Jandyal.
During the course of investigation, he stated that: “Alto Car bearing registration number JK02AP/6546 and I20 car bearing registration number JK12C/5339 used for the commission of crime and Scooty bearing registration number JK02DL-8834 snatched by the accused after commission of crime have been recovered from different places in Jammu and Samba.”
Whole plot/conspiracy hatched for the murder of Sumit Jandyal has been unearthed by Jammu Police and till now 11 persons (including two juveniles) have been arrested in this connection including shooters/conspirator/co-accused/harbourers.
“The strenuous efforts are being made to arrest the remaining accused who were instrumental in execution of crime,” the SSP informed.
Moreover, he said that efforts are also being made to work out the financial transactions planning and execution of this murder.
“Main conspirator, who has hatched the criminal conspiracy from outside India in carrying out murder of Sumit Jandyal has also been identified and sincere efforts are being made by Jammu Police for the deportation of identified accused to India/Jammu,” he further stated.
He expressed commitment of the Jammu Police for the eradication of crime in Jammu and special focus will be laid down for crushing gangsterism. He also issued strict warning to rogue elements to shun path of crime otherwise they’ll be dealt with iron hands by Jammu Police.
The police have shared the name of the arrested (accused and co-accused) persons including Harsh Singh alias Banta (main conspirator), resident of Bikram Chowk, Jammu. Banta remained in constant touch with Vicky Slathia alias Vicky.
Police stated that Mithun Kumar, resident of Kanna Chargal, Dhoon, Nagrota, Jammu District was one of the conspirator and financial linkage. Abhay Pratap Singh alias Mui alias Abhi, resident of Nai Basti, Jammu was the shooter along with another juvenile whose name was not disclosed.
Shiv Kumar Bhagat alias Shibbu alias Koda, resident of Sharika Vihar, Talab Tillo, Jammu did recee and participated in conspirator/recee. Amit Kumar alias Chidi, resident of Gole Panjpeer, Talab Tillo, Jammu; Arun Kumar, son of Rajesh Kumar, resident of Bikram Chowk, Jammu; Ruhan Farooq, resident of Moh. Jaman near Fire Station, Gool District Ramban at present Asrarabad, Sidhra and a juvenile (name withheld) were the co-accused, according to the police.
Ajay Kumar, resident of Bikram Chowk, Jammu and Raj, resident of Old Seemapuri, Delhi were the harbourers, the police claimed.DD
