Jammu : TDD,The Rural Zone of Jammu Police has chalked up huge successes in Operation Kamdhenu, the drive against bovine smuggling, undertaken during 2024. This operation led to 333 FIRs, 3,014 rescued bovines, and 352 arrests of accused smugglers. For repeat offenders, the law enforcers dealt with eight PSA cases, recovered ₹8,32,752 towards cost and care charges through courts, and 309 vehicles.
The initiative expanded beyond immediate enforcement, with police establishing history sheets for notorious smugglers and initiating the cancellation of vehicle documentation for repeat offenders. District-wide statistics showed even broader impact, with 374 FIRs registered, 3,252 animals rescued, 349 vehicles seized, and 407 arrests made.
SSP Rural Jammu Brijesh Sharma, under the supervision of SSP Jammu Joginder Singh, boasted that the department never compromises on public sentiments and animal rights. This operation has created an effective list of offenders for proper enforcement later. The authorities have promised that they will continue to exert pressure on the networks of cattle smugglers.TDD
