Jammu Sizzles at 44.4°C, Ranks Among World’s Hottest Places

Jammu,(DD): In a stark reminder of the intensifying summer heat, Jammu on Tuesday recorded a maximum temperature of 44.4°C, earning it a spot among the world’s top 100 hottest places. According to global weather data, the city ranked 68th on the list, as shared by Kashmir Weather, a platform known for reliable regional forecasts.

The intense heatwave sweeping across northern India has gripped several parts of Jammu and Kashmir, with Jammu bearing the brunt of the scorching sun. Health advisories have been issued urging people to stay indoors during peak hours, especially between 12 noon and 4 pm, and to take preventive measures to avoid heatstroke and dehydration.

Faizan Arif, an independent weatherman from Srinagar and founder of Kashmir Weather, confirmed the development. “Jammu recorded 44.4°C, which put it in the 68th position globally among the hottest places on Earth yesterday,” Arif said. “This is not only unusual but also concerning, as such prolonged heat spells are becoming increasingly frequent.”

He further noted that the extreme temperatures are a result of a persistent dry spell and stagnant atmospheric conditions, delaying the much-awaited pre-monsoon relief.

“While some parts of the Kashmir Valley may see light rain after June 14, the Jammu region will continue to face hot and dry conditions till at least mid-June,” Arif added.

The prolonged heat has also raised concerns for agriculture, power supply, and public health. Local authorities are monitoring the situation closely, especially with the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, which draws thousands of pilgrims through heat-prone regions.

Experts warn that unless immediate steps are taken to mitigate the impacts of climate change, such extreme weather events may become more common in the region(DD)
