‘Chenab River Touches Danger mark in Ramban’

RAMBAN/BANIHAL: DD, Jammu-Srinagar Highway has been closed for vehicular traffic following incessant rains, and shooting stones at several places in Banihal Sector.
According to the reports, the highway was closed as a precautionary measure and no vehicle was allowed to ply on the highway from 9 AM.
As the heavy rains lashed the region, the reports of shooting stones from Banihal’s Kela Morh, Chanderkote, Battery Chashma, and other places occurred.
Since the highway became unsafe to travel on, the authorities decided to close it for vehicular traffic from Qazigund and Udhampur.
Hence, no vehicle was allowed to move on the highway.
Meanwhile, the authorities have cautioned the people living in the low-lying areas as the Chenab River has been swelled following the heavy rains.
As per the reports, the Chenab River almost touched the danger mark, and the people from the low-lying areas were evacuated immediately. Further details were awaited.DD
