Jammu,( TDD): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reassured the people of Jammu that the newly inaugurated direct rail link to Kashmir would not result in economic losses but instead bring substantial benefits to the region.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the new railway division, the Chief Minister emphasized that the development would generate jobs, enhance trade, and significantly boost tourism for Jammu.

“This is a historic moment for Jammu & Kashmir. The people of Jammu have long fought for their own railway division, and today, that dream has been realized,” Omar stated. He further explained that the new railway division would not only improve connectivity but would also contribute positively to the local economy. “We expect this project to create employment opportunities, particularly for our youth, and bring substantial growth to tourism and trade,” he added.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the advantages of the new railway division in terms of recruitment. “With the railway’s control and coordination now based in Jammu, we will prioritize local recruitment, ensuring that the benefits of this infrastructure project reach the people of Jammu,” he said.

Omar Abdullah also noted that the new Srinagar-Katra rail line, a key part of the new connectivity, would address long-standing transportation challenges. “This rail link will resolve issues such as disruptions to winter flights and the high costs of airfare, making travel between Jammu and Kashmir more accessible and affordable,” he pointed out.

The event saw the participation of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh, Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma, and other dignitaries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the new railway division, marking a significant step toward enhancing regional connectivity. (TDD)
