“Jammu Zone Achieves Landmark Progress in Security, Crime Control, and Anti-Terror Operations in 2024”

The Diplomat Desk

Jammu, TDD,The year 2024 has been a transformative one for the Jammu Zone, with law enforcement agencies making remarkable strides in ensuring public safety and tackling critical issues such as terrorism, drug trafficking, and general crime. A multifaceted approach, including intensified surveillance, strategic operations, and community engagement, has delivered tangible results across key areas.

Anti-Terror Successes

Security forces neutralized 14 foreign terrorists, dealing a decisive blow to terror networks attempting to destabilize the region. In addition, 13 terror modules were dismantled across districts such as Rajouri, Poonch, and Doda, reflecting the proactive efforts of law enforcement in countering terrorism.

Crackdown on Overground Workers (OGWs)

A comprehensive crackdown led to action against 827 overground workers (OGWs) in 2024, compared to 282 in 2023. The detention of 180 individuals under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) further fortified efforts to dismantle terror support systems and safeguard regional stability.

Fighting the Drug Menace

Drug trafficking remained a key focus, with 476 cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Major seizures included nearly 10 kg of heroin recovered near the Line of Control in Nowshera Sector and 33 kg seized from the Jammu bus stand.

To address rising drug abuse, a state-of-the-art Drug De-addiction Centre was inaugurated in Jammu. The facility provides detoxification, counseling, skill development, and reintegration programs, offering a lifeline to those struggling with addiction.

Decline in General Crime

The Jammu Zone recorded a sharp decline in general crime, with cases dropping from 15,774 in 2023 to 13,163 in 2024. Property theft cases fell from 1,321 to 944, while motor vehicle thefts decreased from 653 to 507. Notably, bovine smuggling cases also saw a significant reduction, from 2,600 in 2023 to 1,770 in 2024.

Modernizing Crime Control

In a major step toward tackling cybercrime, 67 police personnel underwent specialized training, and 10 fully functional Cyber Cells were operationalized across all districts. This initiative enabled the resolution of several online fraud cases, amounting to Rs 4.75 crore in recovered assets.

The accomplishments of 2024 reflect the Jammu Zone’s commitment to ensuring safety, stability, and a better quality of life for its residents through sustained efforts and innovative approaches.TDD
