Jammu, (DD): An Indian Army soldier was martyred last evening in the Keri Battal area of the Akhnoor sector, Jammu district, while responding to an infiltration attempt near the Line of Control.
The Army confirmed that the terrorists were forced to retreat due to a strong retaliatory action.
In an official statement, the Army said:
“On April 11, 2025, at approximately 2030 hours, a team from 9 Punjab Regiment laid an ambush in Mathla Nala near the zero line in the Keri Battal area. A relief party comprising four soldiers, led by Subedar Kuldeep Chand of Himachal Pradesh, was moving to replace the ambush team when it came under unprovoked fire from militants.”
“In the exchange, Subedar Kuldeep Chand sustained fatal injuries and was martyred in the line of duty. The Army responded with effective retaliatory fire, compelling the militants to retreat across the Line of Control into Pakistan-occupied territory.”
The Army added that the area has been cordoned off and search operations are underway to ensure no further threat remains.
Subedar Kuldeep Chand is remembered as a brave and committed soldier who laid down his life while upholding the highest traditions of the Indian Army.
The Army has extended its condolences to the bereaved family and assured them of all possible support(DD)
