Jammu, TDD,The Jammu and Kashmir School Education Department has issued a new circular setting the minimum age for admissions in Nursery, Balvatika, Pre-School, and Anganwadi programs across the winter zones of Jammu Division.
This move aligns the admission process with the region’s revised November-December academic calendar.
In accordance with the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP-2020), the circular specifies that children must be over three years of age for admission to these programs. To standardize the process, November 30 of the admission year has been set as the cutoff date for determining a child’s eligibility.
Educational institutions in the region have been instructed to strictly follow these guidelines to ensure fairness and efficiency in the admission process. This decision is aimed at streamlining early childhood education while adhering to the national framework provided by NEP-2020.
Officials said that these changes will not only bring uniformity to the admission process but also ensure that children are developmentally ready for structured learning at the appropriate age. Schools and Anganwadi centers have welcomed the clarity provided by this circular, as it addresses longstanding concerns about age criteria mismatches during admissions. (TDD)
