Jammu, (DD) The Jammu and Kashmir government has provided five marlas of land each to 498 landless families under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to help them build residential houses. The initiative aims to support underprivileged families who do not own land, ensuring they have a place to construct a permanent home.
Replying to a query raised by CPI(M) MLA M.Y. Tarigami, the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj stated that the government is actively working to provide land to eligible landless families, subject to verification by the Revenue Department.
“The government is committed to addressing housing issues for landless families in Jammu and Kashmir. Land is allotted only after proper verification, and extended families of landless individuals may also be considered for allotment, provided they meet the eligibility criteria and guidelines set by the scheme,” the minister said.
He further clarified that the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement Act, 2013, is being implemented in Jammu and Kashmir. Under this act, compensation is determined as per the provisions mentioned in Section 27 and Subsection (2) of Section 30, ensuring fair and transparent land allocation.
Status of Land Allotment Under PMAY:
498 families have received land allotments.
2,727 applications have been rejected due to ineligibility or non-compliance with scheme guidelines.
442 cases are currently under active review by the Revenue Department for possible allotment.
The minister assured that the government will continue its efforts to assist landless families and expand housing opportunities across Jammu and Kashmir.(DD)
