J&K Govt Mandates Aprons, Nameplates for Medical Staff to Ensure Accountability

Diplomat Correspondent

Srinagar, (DD): In a bid to enhance transparency and patient comfort in public healthcare facilities, the Jammu and Kashmir government has directed all doctors and paramedical staff to wear white aprons and clearly visible nameplates during duty hours.

The decision comes after authorities noted that many healthcare professionals, including those engaged under the National Health Mission (NHM) and Ayush, were not adhering to standard identification protocols. This non-compliance, the government observed, was creating confusion among patients and their attendants.

“Doctors and paramedical staff across government-run healthcare institutions are failing to follow basic norms like wearing aprons and nameplates during duty hours,” the order notes. “This not only undermines professional decorum but also causes inconvenience to patients who are unable to identify attending staff.”

As per the directive, all doctors—including NHM and Ayush personnel—and all paramedical staff must wear a white apron and a legible nameplate displaying their full name and designation at all times while on duty.

The government has instructed medical superintendents, chief medical officers, and heads of institutions to ensure strict implementation of the order in hospitals and health centres under their jurisdiction.

The move is aimed at improving hospital discipline, boosting patient confidence, and reinforcing accountability among medical professionals in the Union Territory(DD)
