J&K Govt Merges 4,358 Schools Under Rationalisation Plan

Diplomat Correspondent

Srinagar, (DD)The Jammu and Kashmir government has merged 4,358 schools with nearby institutions as part of a rationalisation initiative aimed at optimizing resources and improving educational infrastructure.

Responding to a query in the Assembly, Education Minister Sakina Itoo stated that of the merged schools, 1,274 were from the Jammu region and 3,084 from Kashmir. The decision was based on specific criteria, including schools located in the same vicinity, those operating in rented buildings or lacking proper infrastructure, and institutions with zero or minimal student enrollment.

“The surplus teachers from these schools have been redeployed based on the actual needs of different areas, zones, and districts,” the minister said.

The rationalisation initiative is intended to streamline the education sector, ensuring better utilization of resources while maintaining accessibility for students.(DD)
