AKHNOOR: One Day Convention of Jammu and Kashmir Jatt Sabha was organised here at Akhnoor to deliberate about the future prospects and strategy to fight the injustice with the Jatt youth, who devoted their life in the country’s defence services and issues confronted by future generations.

The convention was organised by District President Jammu Rural of J&K Jatt Sabha, Manjit Singh Jatt here at Akhnoor.

During the day-long convention, the Jatt leaders resolved that the Govt of India shall extend the benefit of reservation under Other Backward Class (OBC) to the Jatts of Jammu and Kashmir in central Govt jobs.

The resolution was mutually agreed by the representatives and the prominent community members, especially youth that their employment prospects have been reduced with the new scheme i.e., Agneevir in Army.

Speaking on the occasion, the Former Minister, and President of J&K Jatt Sabha, S. Manjit Singh said that the Jatts have been included in the OBC category in Jammu and Kashmir. But they are not getting their due share in the central Govt jobs.

“These communities deserve consideration in the central Govt so that the Jatts who have faced three major wars between India and Pakistan from 1947-48, 1965 and 1971 and still they live on the borders,” said the Former Minister.

He further said that the Govt should have a humanitarian view of the demand so that the Jatts youth can get jobs in Central Govt and paramilitary under OBC quota.

Meanwhile, Former MP and Patron of the Jatt Sabha, Tarlkok Singh Bajwa also raised the issue of compensation that is not given to the Jatts in exchange of land.

“The Jatts have been settled on Custodian lands in the border belts, after their displacement from different areas. However, in many cases, they had to abandon the land so that it could be handed over to the BSF, Army, NHPC, and other Civilian Departments for various purposes. But these Jatt allottees are not given compensation even by these respective departments leading to the financial loss,” he said.

Whereas, Senior Vice President of the Jatt Sabha, Ex-Cabinet Minister of J&K, Sukhnandan Choudhary also referred to the drug addiction among the youth that needs to be discussed and accordingly, a campaign shall be launched by the members of civil society with the police, and administration.

He asked the parents to actively discourage drug addiction and educate their children that it also gives rise to criminal activities.
