Srinagar,(DD) Jammu and Kashmir Police have achieved the distinction of securing the highest number of Gallantry Medals in the country on the occasion of Independence Day 2025, with 127 personnel honoured for exceptional bravery, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced on Thursday.
Official figures reveal that, of the 233 Gallantry Medals awarded nationwide this year, 152 went to personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir region for acts of remarkable courage. J&K Police lead the tally with 127 medals, followed by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) with 20, Uttar Pradesh Police with 17, the Border Security Force (BSF) with 16, and Chhattisgarh Police with 14.
The Ministry stated that a total of 1,090 personnel from police, fire services, Home Guard and Civil Defence, and Correctional Services across India have been awarded Gallantry and Service Medals this year. These include 233 Medals for Gallantry (GM), 99 President’s Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM), and 758 Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM).
Among the Gallantry Medal recipients, 54 personnel are from Left Wing Extremism-affected areas, 152 from Jammu and Kashmir, three from the North-East, and 24 from other regions.(DD)
