Jammu, (DD)Ahead of the much-anticipated Budget Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Speaker Abdur Rahim Rather chaired an all-party meeting in Jammu today. The meeting aimed to ensure smooth legislative proceedings as the 43-day session is set to begin on March 3.
The session is expected to be highly charged, with opposition parties gearing up to raise pressing issues, including governance lapses, public welfare concerns, and economic challenges. The meeting provided a platform for all political parties to voice their expectations and seek assurances for a fair and constructive debate in the Assembly.
Emphasis on Constructive Debate & Discipline
During the meeting, Speaker Rather emphasized the need for healthy democratic discourse and urged legislators to maintain decorum and discipline while debating critical issues. He specifically reminded members to follow procedural rules, particularly concerning the publicity of questions, bills, and resolutions before they are formally introduced in the House.
“The Assembly is the highest platform for democratic discussions. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that debates remain issue-based and productive, without disruptions,” Speaker Rather stated.
Security & Logistical Preparations Reviewed
Given the anticipated intensity of the session, security arrangements and logistical preparations have been thoroughly reviewed. The Speaker has directed authorities to ensure foolproof security within the Assembly complex and maintain orderly proceedings throughout the session.
In addition, the meeting also discussed strategies to optimize legislative efficiency, ensuring that important bills, including the annual budget, are deliberated upon in a structured manner.
Opposition Prepares to Corner Government
The opposition parties, led by the National Conference (NC) and Congress, have signaled their intent to question the government on a range of issues, including:
Unemployment and economic distress
Infrastructure and developmental delays
Electricity and water supply concerns
Restoration of J&K’s statehood
Alleged corruption in government projects
