J&K Tourism Hit Badly, Govt Focused on Peaceful Amarnath Yatra: CM Omar

Diplomat Correspondent

Srinagar, (DD): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday acknowledged that Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism sector has suffered significantly this summer, with very few tourists visiting the region. He said the government is now focused on ensuring the smooth and peaceful conduct of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.

“Tourism has been hit quite badly, and there are hardly any tourists this season,” the Chief Minister said. “Our immediate priority is the Amarnath Yatra. We want every pilgrim to complete the journey safely and without any incident.”

He added that once the pilgrimage concludes, efforts will be intensified to revive and promote tourism in the region.

On the security front, Omar confirmed that the ceasefire along the Line of Control and international border remains intact, with no reports of violations. He also said damage assessment is underway in affected areas, and compensation will be provided after the evaluation is complete.

“Wherever required, we will seek assistance from the Centre,” he said.

Reacting to the all-party delegation currently visiting several countries, Omar recalled a similar diplomatic outreach during the tenure of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. “It is once again a valuable opportunity to present India’s perspective to the world,” he remarked.(DD)
